At the time of the full moon we celebrate the cycles of our lives reflected in the cycles of the Moon through the seasons. Spend an evening close to the Full Moon for an evening of communion with various aspects of the Goddess, our own deep knowing and each other.
Each month brings us an opportunity to experience the energy of the Moon’s sojourn through the Wheel of the Zodiac;explore these different energies and how they can be thought about and used to expand our awareness and our magick.
Full moon gatherings or solitary practice are called the Esbats; the celebration of the moon’s fullness. The moon is associated with the feminine aspects of the Divine. Earth and sky goddesses are associated with the moon. Earth for the female cycle and therefore fertility and the sky because aroud the full moon, hunters had an advantage with the extra light to have more success with the hunt.
This began over 30,000 years ago when peoples were organized in a matriarchal system. According to astological movement we are moving away from the patriarchal and becoming more balanced with the feminine energy. Of course we are talking hundreds and possibly thousands of years so let’s keep the planet safe until then. I found some interesting quotes for you to pnder at this full moon.
… Invisible spirit of the Air,
And of fresh, cool winds,
O vast and boundless Grandfather Sky, Your living breath animates all life.
Yours is the power of clarity and strength,
Power to hear the inner sounds,
To sweep out the old patterns,
And to bring change and challenge,
The ecstasy of movement and the dance.
~ Ralph Metzner
When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego,
and when we escape like squirrels turning in the cages of our personality and get into the forests again,
we shall shiver with cold and fright but things will happen to us so that we don’t know ourselves.
Cool, underlying life will rush in,
and passion will make our bodies taut with power, we shall stamp our feet with new power.
and old things will fall down, we shall laugh, and institutions will curl up like burnt paper.
~ D. H. Lawrence
